Are you a kick-ass User Interface developer or designer? Are you interested in working with a bunch of passionate people on a great platform or building great rich internet applications? Laszlo Systems is hiring a Senior Software Architect to help out on further development of the platform and we’re always looking for good UI Designers and Software Engineers that are interested in building systems for clients & internal use. Send your resume to ewinard [at] laszlosystems.com with links to stuff that you’ve done. Who knows, we might be working together in a week or two!
Adobe announced yesterday that they’re buying out Macromedia stockholder’s stock. Unfortunately, none of my old Macromedia co-workers have very much to say about the deal. I wonder what’s in store for my engineering friends who still work for good ol’ MACR.
LZX thoughts, clickable layouts
(Try clicking the colored squares to see a reactive layout in action.)
I’ve been really into the coding at Laszlo. It’s pretty easy to kick out slick media-rich applications that connect to back-end systems. The animate function that’s built into node, the base-class for all Laszlo widgets makes it really easy to develop containers and components that move in interesting ways. Each container can have one or more <layout>s, which take care of positioning and sizing of elements in the container. This means that each component doesn’t have to worry about positioning itself and can rely on the layout’s positioning.
I like how LZX lets me be “closer to the metal” than I felt like I was when I was writing MXML code. OpenLaszlo 3.0 (currently in beta, soon to be released) is much snappier than LPS2.2.1, and I’m psyched about the ability to deploy apps SOLO (without running a servlet container). The stretchy squishy layout sample above is just a taste of what’s to come.
