digg question

When you register at digg, it ask “Are you human? (Sorry, we have to ask)” at the bottom of the registration page. Looks like it assumes the answer is yes if you can parse alphanumeric pages in the image.

I gues the new Turing Test is the ability to parse an image and extract symbols. Got that vision scientists?

I’m a wanted man in Toledo?

My dad sent me email this morning that contained a link to an article in the Toledo Blade.

I’ve only been to Ohio once and was involved in neither crack cocaine-related nor voter-registration fraud-related activities. The picture *does* look disturbingly similar to me. I have witnesses that I was in San Francisco at the time of the alleged crimes, so I think I’m safe.

R.J. Reynolds and American Spirits

Tonight I was over at a friend’s house and he was smoking Natural American Spirit cigarettes. The packaging included some copy that explained “Many of the flavorings in cigarettes manufactured by the major tabacco companies are used to mask the poor taste profile of reconstituted sheet tobacco – we use only whole leaf, additive-free natural tobacco.” (my emphasis added.)

My friend Peter then told me that he American Spirit is now owned by RJ Reynolds – the “second-largest tobacco company in the United States, manufacturing about one of every four cigarettes sold in the United States.” (rjrt.com 11may2003) Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company, makers of Natural American Spirit cigarettes confirm that they are owned by the second largest cigarette company.

It’s interesting how companies enter markets and create propaganda that endorses some of their products by smashing other products.
